The Alchemy of Return: Enlightenment as Remembrance
By Richard Mathewson

The first spark, The Flame That Fell, revealed why we forgot. This second spark? It reminds us what was never truly lost.
“You are not becoming divine. You are remembering that you already are.”
The Lie of the Ladder
Modern spirituality has become entangled in the same illusion it claims to transcend:
That enlightenment is a goal.
That awakening is something to achieve.
That the seeker must become something other than what they are.
This is the first poison of the path.
From the moment we begin to “seek,” we are already being taught a subtle untruth: That we are broken. That we must climb. That truth lies above, ahead, or outside.
But awakening is not ascending. It is descending inward. Not a ladder to climb, but a veil to lift. The path is not linear. It is spiral. A remembering. A return.
Remembering: The True Awakening
When a soul awakens, it is not becoming more. It is becoming less burdened. Less hypnotized. Less fragmented. Less seduced by the glamour of amnesia.
What is left when the forgetting burns away? A memory too deep for the mind, but too true to be denied.
This is the alchemy of return. The lead of illusion falls away. The gold of original essence shines through.
No guru gives you this. No doctrine can hand it to you. Because what you are seeking is what is already inside you—Buried beneath lifetimes of noise.
Enlightenment Is a Homecoming, Not a Graduation
Most seekers imagine the spiritual path as a kind of school. Tests, lessons, teachers, mastery, certification. But this is borrowed from systems of control. In truth, enlightenment is not graduation—It is homecoming.
It is a return to the original vibration you held before the distortion. Before you believed you were separate. Before you bought the story that you are just a body with a lifespan.
And so, the true teacher does not “teach.” They remind. They say, “You already know. Let me help you remember.”
The Body as Archive
The human body is not the obstacle. It is the record keeper. You don’t need to leave the body to awaken. You need to fully inhabit it.
The alchemy of return involves:
Awakening cellular memory
Listening to the hum of the nervous system
Trusting the emotional tides as information
Feeling the truth of things before words arrive
The body remembers what the mind forgot. This is why certain sounds, sights, smells, or moments bring tears for no reason. It is not grief. It is recognition.
The Role of the “Fall”
This connects directly to the first article in the 13 Sparks series, “The Flame That Fell: Why We Forget.” The fall into density was not a punishment. It was a choice to explore form and contrast. We entered limitation to experience the sacred tension between remembering and forgetting.
The alchemy of return, then, is not a reversal of the fall—It is the completion of it. We return, not as we were—But with the wisdom of form now integrated into the flame.
Enlightenment is not erasure of ego. It is its transmutation into service. We do not escape the world. We return to it, lit from within.
The Mark of the Remembered
How do you know if someone is remembering? They:
Speak with fewer words, but more meaning
Are rooted, not frantic
Laugh more often—not from denial, but from deep knowing
Seek less approval
Trust what they feel more than what they’re told
Carry the ache of the stars behind their eyes
They are the ones who walk beside the fire but no longer get burned. They do not speak of becoming light. They already are.
You, the Spark
If you are reading this, you are not a beginner. You are not here to chase light like a moth.
You are a spark that fell—A flame that remembers. A soul returning to its throne, not to dominate, but to illuminate.
You are not ascending. You are arriving. Again. And again. And again.
Remember this: Enlightenment is not the goal. It is the memory that you were never lost.
